What is Viviamo! Camp – Asia Pacific?
The Asia Pacific Viviamo! Camp is a two-week summer program which will run from July 12 to 26, 2007 in Manila, Philippines. It has three main parts, and an optional one-week extension:
Introduction to the Philippines & Philippine Society
Participants will go through a three-day introduction to the Philippines and Philippine society prior to the actual Viviamo! Camp immersion. They will be taken on a tour of Manila’s historical spots, guided through the country’s colonial history. At the end of the introductory session, participants will end up with a better understanding of why the Philippines is the way it is today.
Viviamo! Immersion
The actual Vivamo! immersion entails seven (7) days of living and working in a Gawad Kalinga village. This will allow participants to experience the day-to-day life of the poor Filipino, and to have a hand in implementing Gawad Kalinga’s model for eradicating poverty.
Development Training
After learning about the Philippines’s development problems both in theory and through actual experience, participants will now talk about the development solutions and challenges in the Philippines. A series of lectures by specialists, coupled with group activities, aim to train participants in developing creative solutions to poverty that take culture and history into consideration, and strike at the very heart of the problem.
Optional Tour
At the end of the camp, participants who wish to extend their stay in the Philippines to enjoy the sights may do so with a partner organization,
YOUTH TRiP. Keep checking the website for further information on the available travel packages. For more information about the Philippines and
