 Internship Program

Part of the World Youth Alliance’s mandate is to work with young people all over the world. The Internship program takes this a step further by working with members of different nationalities on specific projects in the office of another region or within the region. These projects are created based on the needs of the organization and are assigned to interns on the basis of skills, talents and specializations.  Projects are short-term and run for three month periods.

Objectives of the internships

  • To identify and train young leaders to communicate articulately on behalf of the intrinsic dignity of the human person and a culture of life

  • To develop a vocabulary with which to engage the international community and larger society on issues relating to the dignity of the person, human rights, and integral development

  • To help young people re-discover themselves and their talents

  • To develop an understanding of the relationship between ideas, culture and policies

The World Youth Alliance has experienced tremendous growth in memberships and aspirations of the internship program both regionally and internationally.  To enable us work effectively in the African region, we have come up with recommendations that will assist us in the Internship program selection process.

Training Program

Each internship will be three months in duration.  Interns will be divided into three different programs based on their core skill sets and interests.

All internships will be divided into three components:  introductory training, project development, and project assessment.

1. Introductory Training

All interns will receive introductory training at the World Youth Alliance headquarters in New York City throughout the course of their internships.  Interns will receive basic training from WYA staff in the following areas:

  • Human rights philosophy.

  • The dignity of the human person as the basis for all human rights.

  • Recent trends in international policy.

  • Language of UN documents and treaties.

  • Basic diplomacy and negotiation.

2. Project Development

Interns will be given both short- and long-term projects during their internships.  Projects may be focused on international law, public relations, diplomacy, or research.  They will include concrete goals and tasks formulated in cooperation between the intern and WYA staff.

Interns may be asked to monitor UN conferences and meetings for the World Youth Alliance.  Networking with UN and mission representatives would be required.

3. Project Assessment

The final two weeks of each internship will consist of a project assessment at the New York office of the World Youth Alliance.  Interns will be required to write a final report and finalize their research in consultation with WYA staff.

Travel

Interns are responsible for their own travel to and from New York City, as well as responsible for all transportation throughout the internship, e.g. purchase of metro cards, cab fare, and the like.

Accommodations

Interns will be hosted by the World Youth Alliance in a private residence a short walk from the WYA offices.  They will be provided with a small food stipend of $250 per month, and will be responsible for purchasing and preparing their own meals.
