 Internship Program

Part of the World Youth Alliance’s mandate is to work with young people all over the world. The Internship program takes this a step further by working with members of different nationalities on specific projects in the office of another region or within the region. These projects are created based on the needs of the organization and are assigned to interns on the basis of skills, talents and specializations.  Projects are short-term and run for three month periods.

Objectives of the internships

  • To identify and train young leaders to communicate articulately on behalf of the intrinsic dignity of the human person and a culture of life

  • To develop a vocabulary with which to engage the international community and larger society on issues relating to the dignity of the person, human rights, and integral development

  • To help young people re-discover themselves and their talents

  • To develop an understanding of the relationship between ideas, culture and policies

The World Youth Alliance has experienced tremendous growth in memberships and aspirations of the internship program both regionally and internationally.  To enable us work effectively in the African region, we have come up with recommendations that will assist us in the Internship program selection process.

2010 FIRST QUARTER (JAN-MARCH) INTERNS

MICHELLE CHIHAMBAKWE

Hie, my name is Michelle from Zimbabwe. I am a Social Science graduate who majored in Environmental Studies and Sociology at Africa University in Zimbabwe. W.Y.A promotes the ideals and values that I believe in and would like to embrace. Of particular interest was the Track A training which widened my knowledge regarding the different ideologies and principles that emerged in the history, amplified my scope in looking at the progress of international organizations.

I have always been interested in development and international cooperation issues and interning for W.Y.A is a step towards the realisation of a dream for me. Through this experience I hope to fuse my understanding of academia and the workplace. I endeavor to break into the environmental research field; covering international issues.

I believe working in a team with people from diverse national and cultural backgrounds will improve my knowledge, skills and ability.

GEORGE NDUNG'U

I am glad to be associated with World Youth Alliance and the opportunity to do an internship with World Youth Alliance Africa. I am 19 years old Kenyan looking forward to joining the university this year for a degree in Sociology.

I am really passionate about the role young people play in their communities today. I love working with the youth and youth organizations because young people hold the key to developing strong, healthy and caring communities across the world.

I will take this opportunity as an intern to introduce World Youth Alliance to as many youth as I can, talk to them about the importance of Human Dignity and also to develop and implement dignity projects for the benefit of the society. I strongly believe that Human Dignity is the basis of Human Rights

SHEILA NYAYIEKA

I am Sheila Nyayieka. I am 22years old, studying Law at the University of Nairobi.  I applied for the WYA internship because I wanted to be involved in projects that uphold the dignity of the human person focusing specifically on the youth. I am motivated by the thought of alleviating injustice of any kind.  I have worked with several youth organizations which renew my hope of seeing poverty and corruption free world where love and compassion reign supreme. If I were a color, I’d be a red, passionate and aggressive. Other than that, I love having a good laugh, music and value good relationships. I hope the WYA internship changes my perception in a good way, helps me better someone’s life and opens many other opportunities in the future.

The sky is the limit!

ONESMUS MUTUA

Being the sixth born in a family of four sisters and one brother he has come to note that family is the basic institution that natures the intrinsic value of person. And it’s therefore that he would like to acknowledge his parents for the role they have played in nurturing up his intrinsic worthiness. Having completed an information and communication technology course with Jommo Kenyatta university of Agriculture and Technology he has come to note that most of the key issues affecting  young people have not been taken into consideration and its therefore that he has taken an extra mile to join the WYA just to accord himself with the best skills on championing youth issues.  Just as per the Kiswahili quote “kuishi kwingi kuona mengi” he greatly supports Anna Halpine’s declaration on the family and as a matter of fact he would like to encourage young people to join this fun filled organization so that they can explore more about dignity.

SHARON WANGECHI

I am Sharon Wangechi. I have two brothers and one sister. I hold a degree in Law from Moi University, Eldoret Western Kenya [2008]. I have a dream of doing an LLM in International Law, learning Portuguese and visiting the South Pacific. I love reading especially nature magazines, playing tennis, poetry and astronomy. The World Youth Alliance has provided me with a chance to move a step closer to my goal of studying international law as a lot of the training on W.Y.A has a lot of international matters. The WYAA house in Nairobi provides a chance to meet new people with diverse backgrounds and interests and make friends for life. Am happy to be here, that’s for sure.

MAISARA OTHMAN

I’m a 19 year old Kenyan girl. I have a 14 year old sister, Shufaa, in Kianda School. My mum, Ellah, is a kindergarten teacher at Riara Springs Kindergarten and my dad, Mohammed, is a graphic designer based in Botswana. I love adventure and would on anything new and different. I am really into Fashion and Art – all forms of Art, Drawing, Painting, Interior Design, Photography and Theatre. I enjoy meeting new people and learning about different cultures, as well as working with children, the younger the better! I’m really excited about being an intern with World Youth Alliance. I hope to use this opportunity to enlighten all young people about all the WYA ideas that I feel very strongly about and empower them to be the best they can be, as well as discover their artistic side along the way. This is because I believe that Art in whatever form is a powerful means of expressing oneself and conveying a particular message.
