Objectives

  • To identify and train young leaders to communicate articulately on behalf of the intrinsic dignity of the human person and a culture of life

  • To develop a vocabulary with which to engage the international community and larger culture on issues relating to the dignity of the person, human rights, and integral development

What We're Looking For

The World Youth Alliance is looking for leaders with a strong desire to protect and promote human dignity while making a positive impact on society. Successful interns have been proactive, self-driven, resourceful, detail-oriented and humble individuals with a willingness to learn; if you possess these qualities, if you’re looking to make a difference, apply today for the World Youth Alliance Internship program. 

What’s in it for you

As an intern, you’ll develop skills highly valued in the professional world such as project management, presentation, communication and time management skills. Furthermore, you will gain the ability to manage multiple projects, develop interpersonal skills, and solve problems. You’ll be exposed to diverse cultures from around the world through your fellow interns; you’ll learn to collaborate, to be adaptive, to build rapport and to self-reflect for continued personal growth.

Introductory Training

All interns will receive introductory training at the World Youth Alliance headquarters in New York City throughout the course of their internships.  Interns will receive basic training from WYA staff in the following areas:

  • Human rights philosophy.

  • The dignity of the human person as the basis for all human rights.

  • Recent trends in international policy.

  • Language of UN documents and treaties.

  • Basic diplomacy and negotiation.

What you’ll be doing:

Job Description: To speak accurately and professionally about the World Youth Alliance. To lead various projects and maintain communications with staff and other interns. To maintain a clean and orderly working and living environment. To help organize events, both local and international, while fulfilling clerical and administrative duties. To actively participate in weekly training sessions and meetings.

  • Major training event on human dignity, international policy, and current issues such as human cloning, HIV/AIDS, and International Year of the Family, and Good Governance

    • In addition, our interns learn valuable lessons in diplomacy through:

      • Attendance at all major UN conferences

      • Speaking with delegates at UN conferences

      The World Youth Alliance makes every attempt to encourage initiative and creativity by building on the strengths of our interns. Here is a list of intern initiated projects:

      • Increasing WYA’s web presence via social networking sites: facebook, myspace, blogs, youtube, etc.

      • Search engine optimization and general website improvement

      • The design and creation of all paper-based media materials such as:

        • WYA Organizational profile

        • WYA Informational brochure

      • Publicizing, promoting, and representing WYA at various colleges, high schools and other youth groups across the nation

      • Building a New York committee to establish WYA as the foremost youth organization

      • Creating fundraising campaigns for the World Youth Alliance

      • Establish and maintain human resource database for the World Youth Alliance

        • Create job descriptions, job specifications, and recruiting materials for future interns

        • Create and maintain performance management system for World Youth Alliance



      Travel

      Interns are responsible for their own travel to and from New York City, as well as responsible for all transportation throughout the internship, e.g. purchase of metro cards, cab fare, and the like.



      Accommodations

      Interns will be hosted by the World Youth Alliance at World Youth Alliance Headquarters in a beautiful townhouse a short walk from United Nations Headquarters.  They will be provided with a food stipend of $250 per month, and will be responsible for purchasing and preparing their own meals.
