Letters from a Stranger (Year 2)
Letters from a Stranger is an item exchange party and fundraiser
by World Youth Alliance Asia Pacific (WYAAP) and Hand & Heart.
Slots are limited. Pre-registration is required.
ABOUT THE EVENT
Letters from a Stranger is a casual gathering where anyone young and young at heart come together in the company of old and new friends. This is a space where like-minded hopeful youth can spend their day off in a positive environment, freely exchanging ideas, meeting new contacts, and learning more about what they could do to help achieve progress.
This year, Letters from a Stranger is reaching out to all persons with dignity, and yes, that includes our friends from the deaf community. Through this letter exchange, we want all our guests who hear and cannot hear, to feel heard and to be heard. We are one community after all. On August 21, let’s realize how much we have in common.
RULES OF THE GAME AND FAQS:
Who could attend this event?
You! This year, we are inviting, in particular, members of the deaf community and the general public who wish to engage with a new community and perhaps learn a new alphabet while they’re at it.
What is an item exchange?
All guests get to attend for FREE as long as they bring one item to exchange with another person attending the party. There will be a special part on the program where all guests will exchange the item for the evening.
Cool! What item will be exchanged?
As in the title, guests will be giving AND receiving a LETTER for and from mystery guests at the party.
What will I write about?
World Youth Alliance and Hand & Heart believe in the power of positivity and the fact that all persons from and outside the PWD community are more alike than different. Write something nice. Something relatable. Something that we all have felt, are feeling, or want to feel. Something funny. Something that will make your recipient happy. Why are we more alike than different?
How will I address the letter?
Be creative. You can do the traditional, “Dear friend,” or write something funny or specific like, “Dear someone who needs a pick-me-up”, “Dear complete and total stranger”
How long should the letter be?
Your letter should fit within 1 letter-sized/short bond paper. You can go beyond 1 page if you like; Just make sure that your letter is easily foldable because we will provide all guests with the same envelopes upon entrance.
Can I draw on it?
Sure, why not? But make sure to include a note for your recipient.
Do I have to sign it?
You can put your initials or even a pen name if you want to remain mysterious 😉
How will we know who to give the letter to?
We’ll keep this a secret for now. There will be a special part on the program where all guests will do the exchange.
Will my recipient be someone from the deaf community?
We don’t know! It could be anyone from anywhere (on the guest list)
Can I sponsor the event?
You can shoot us an email at email@example.com for sponsorship and partnership inquiries.
