WYA European Arts Forum 2018: Arts and Common Values

June 23, 2018 - June 27, 2018

About the European Arts Forum

23rd to the 27th of June 2018.

This 2018 edition of European Arts Forum was held under the topic “Arts and Common Values”. The idea came from the experiences of young people who understood the power that Art and Culture have in connecting the people from different cultural, social, religious and ethnic backgrounds and developing their mutual understanding. They also learned that Art and Culture can be a great tool to learn about common European values and identity and empower us to embrace and celebrate diversity.

We wanted to explore those lines that unite us and are recognized regardless of our differences. Indeed, there are so many different expressions of art, so much that connects us but also what separates us. The great throwback to our roots was a House of European History, which highlighted the European past full of differences and conflicted ideas on one hand and our similarities and final unity of peace on the other hand. Among all that, people tried to find their sanctuary in art. What makes a work of art close and familiar, unique in transmitting a message that everyone understands? Why can we easily associate with some pieces of art, and we do not have interest or any connection with others? We have tried to answer this and other questions seeking for common values in art, values people can always recognize regardless of their personal history, education or culture.

Art is expression of the invisible in visible form, art is the opening up to something beyond us, something we cannot touch but are experiencing within ourselves at the same time. Art works are not represented only in institutions, because if we carry that beauty and imagination within ourselves, they can be expressed anywhere, anytime and in any form. If you found a treasure that is unique and unusual in everyday life you have found a piece of art.
