Asia Pacific and Gawad Kalinga

In the Asia Pacific region, we are honored to be working with Gawad Kalinga (GK). GK is an organization that addresses poverty by transforming urban and rural slums into vibrant communities filled with colorful, beautiful homes, landscaped gardens and integrated with schools for children and programs for child and youth development, health and productivity. We have started to spread the word about GK’s approach by nominating them for international best practice awards and official United Nations recognition. In solidarity with Gawad Kalinga, we have committed to building a village with the help of our members, families and friends.

This Saturday, 15 July, WYAAP will officially be launching their partnership with GK at the Castaneda Village in Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila. This is just the first of many community builds with Gawad Kalinga. Every month WYA members are invited to join GK build homes and communities.

World Youth Alliance Asia Pacific has already participated in several GK activities. Last May, a group of WYA members spent four days and three nights at Zontaville, a GK community in Metro Manila. These members had the opportunity to live with the community and help in building and painting their new homes.

Do you want to be involved too?

Wonderful! World Youth Alliance Asia Pacific is inviting you, your friends and your family to be a part of this project. There are many ways of being involved!

1. Tell People About WYA and GK!!! You can lend your voice and tell everybody you meet about WYA and Gawad Kalinga. The more people know about this initiative, the more people we can get involved!

2. Volunteer at the Builds!!! Join the team of WYA volunteers as they work with the communities in building their homes. This act of solidarity builds not only houses, but friendship and hope for a better life.
