Love, Laughter & Life Ever After: 2nd International Congress on Education in Love, Sex and Life

This is a congress on the life and love of today’s youth: What they think… what they feel… what they say.

Lora Garcia, Rissa Barretto and Michelle Javellana (members of WYA since April 2007) are part of the organizing committee of this congress which aims to work towards character and chastity education. If you’re interested in attending or learning more about the congress, check out their website! http://edicongress.com. The congress will be held at EDSA Shangri-La Hotel, Manila, Philippines from 19 to 22 November 2007.

Background

In May 2006 the First International Congress on Education on Sex and Relationships was held in Mexico City, organized by InterMedia and other international bodies.

Attended by 750 policy makers, parents, social entrepreneurs, and development educators from four continents, the highly positive impact of the Congress led to the calling of the Second Congress, this time in Manila.

Objectives

The objective of the Manila Congress: To equip delegates to put up initiatives and projects on education of the heart and character.

Youth education is the key of future social development. Some aspects of education are both difficult and yet supremely crucial. Among them, helping the young prepare themselves for love and life, has been a matter of growing concern for families and other educators. It deserves the proper attention from all social institutions and authorities.

Mistaken approaches are at the root of many worsening social problems: teenage pregnancies, the incidence of live-in arrangements, promiscuity, and violence, among others. Despite all the money, expertise and propaganda spent on human sexuality, current programs are making little impact on the resolution of sex-related problems and many other challenges confronting the young.

Education in self-discipline and character… this seems to be a formidable entry to responding effectively to the challenges.

Delegates

The Congress is intended for persons and entities inclined to initiate educational activities for teenagers. In the Manila edition, delegates will not only be officials, parents, civil leaders and educators, but young people involved in the orientation of younger peers.

Attendance is expected from the Asian region, North America, Australia, South America and Europe in continuity with the First Congress.

Registration for the Congress begins March 2007.
