Summer Camp – Puerto Galera, Philippines

The Philippine Committee of WYA Asia Pacific has been working hard to put together the first Summer Camp, “Pagmata, Paglakbay, Pagariata”, at Puerto Galera from 29 April to 6 May 2007. The Summer Camp, aimed at helping members complete the Certified Training Program (Track A) during the week, is open to members interested in training and starting a chapter in their own community.

Pagmata is Bisaya vernacular for awareness; paglakbay, Tagalog for journey; pagariata, Maranao for friendship.

Altogether, the summer camp aims to train 20 young leaders from different fields of study/interest (across Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao) to communicate articulately on behalf of the dignity of the human person and develop a vocabulary with which to engage the international and local communities on issues that impact policy and culture. Through this lived experience of the dignity of the person, all of us will be able to affirm life at all levels of society. Through various camp activities, we look forward to creating a very dynamic and long-lasting bond and friendship among the participants.

Here’s a peek at what is in store for all of us –
•    Discussions by the beach
•    Participation in Gawad Kalinga builds
•    Bonfires and cookouts

We are very excited with this project and we hope you can join us and be part of the pioneering batch of summer campers. Please feel free to get in touch with Frank Chiu through wyaap.frankchiu@gmail.com or Tamara Tan at tamara@wya.net for further inquiries.
