Atheism has been part of our societies for centuries. But 2006 was an exceptionally big year for Atheism, i.e. New Atheism as it is termed by most scholars and scientists. This is due to the release of several books by well known scientists such Richard Dawkins, Daniel Dennett and Christopher Hitchens. In a nutshell, the works argue that religion is dangerous, that science has destroyed religion and that it is not needed for our societies neither for morality while also calling upon atheists to band together and to be more vocal.
Their works, including Richard Dawkinsâ âThe God Delusionâ and Michel Onfrayâs “Atheist Manifesto” are selling by the thousands and are prompting hours of conversations and discussions in media, on university campuses, in intellectual circles and among many other prominent groups of our societies. This has pushed The New Atheism to the very front lines of our cultural debates and interactions and has become a strong intellectual movement.
