Milkah Ndung’u is a Kenyan, born and raised in Nairobi. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Communication from Tangaza University, The Catholic University of East Africa. She is passionate about humanity and social cohesion which led her to start a forum, Global Hope. She, together with other like-minded youths, have taken it upon themselves to help young kids access education by raising funds for their school fees and other required amenities.
Milkah is an avid reader with a passion for writing. She has a blog called Books Brigade where she highlights the books she reads with a goal to promote a reading culture. She likes traveling and watching sports as a hobby. She believes that communication is key for leadership hence she joined World Youth Alliance to further develop her skills as a Communication Specialist. She hopes to make a difference by advocating for Human Dignity.
Chelangat Betty holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and International Relations from Egerton University and is also a former student of Confucius Institute where she studied Chinese language and culture for two years. She has a huge interest in international security and world politics which she intends to undertake for her postgraduate studies. Chelangat is always willing to learn, always striving to succeed in life, a hard worker, ambitious striving to leave a mark everywhere she goes and has a passion for learning foreign languages. She is currently learning four different languages: French, Korean, Japanese and Chinese. She also has an interest in German and Spanish which she intends to start learning after completing the ones she is currently studying.
Chelangat believes in giving back to society through volunteering activities. She is a former Volunteer Graduate Assistant with G-United Programme; an initiative by the President of the Republic of Kenya with an aim of giving Kenyan University graduates a chance to give back to a community in different parts of Kenya. It was through this programme that she was deployed to Samburu County, a marginalized rural area, to help grade one and two pupils learn Kiswahili and English languages which in turn promotes national integration. She also worked with the Kenya Red Cross Society as an attaché at Parklands branch Nairobi.
Chelangat is a dreamer who would like to travel and visit different parts of the world. She has traveled to China, where specifically visited Jiangsu province {Nanjing and Jurong cities} and Shanghai city. This opportunity of being a World Youth Alliance Africa regional intern sure is a blessing that with not only change her perspective on so many things or how she views different things but also her whole life in general. She intends to make use of this opportunity to promote the dignity of every human person that she comes across.
Lucy Mahenzo is a friendly warm person from Kenya, who is working towards being an impactful person who will be used as a point of reference for her diligence and hard work. She has a Bachelor degree in Environmental Studies and Community Development from Kenyatta University.
She is an environmental steward, with a great passion for good Environmental conservation practices, anti-poaching campaigns, and ecosystem rehabilitation and restoration. She has worked with environmental organizations and clubs on educating communities and young people on climate change, sustainable development goals, and environmental advocacy.
She is a strong believer of kindness, and service and is forever guided by one of Martin Luther king’s quote that ‘’Not all can be famous but all can be great because greatness is determined through service.’’
Mahenzo loves reading books, especially African fiction and is inspired by authors like Nnedi Okorafor, Yaa Gyasi, and Tomi Adeyemi. She is also an aspiring author whose wish is to share with the world her stories and struggles with other people. She still hopes to learn more, experience more and grow more in her vocation.
Michaella Mpundu is a Burundian national, born and bred in the capital city of Bujumbura. After her secondary studies, she embarked on a diploma in entrepreneurship at the Akilah Institute in Rwanda. She then decided she needed to further her academic credentials, so she is currently pursuing a BSc in computer science at the Africa Leadership University in Rwanda where she was among the 100 students in Africa awarded the prestigious Mandela centennial scholarship to mark Nelson Mandela’s 100th birthday.
She has previously worked on a project to help disadvantaged kids in a slum in Kigali, helping young kids and adolescents nurture and develop their God-given talent. She indeed has a passion for youth talent development and is also an unapologetic feminist. She strives to be an advocate for gender equality, this is in a way how she became interested in an internship at the World Youth Alliance. She wants the human rights struggle to be a nonviolent one, where an individual understands his rights, his limitations and is able to explore and enjoy those rights to the fullest. She is an outgoing person who loves swimming, making new friends and traveling.
Sharon Mwitari is a Law Student at JKUAT-Karen Campus with a growing passion in International Relations, Humanitarian Rights and Philosophy. She is an advocate of Youth Empowerment and Involvement on all fronts of the society, and this is what drew her to the World Youth Alliance. She believes that the youth deserve a seat at the table to have their voice heard and acted upon. She affirms Amal Clooney’s statement that “We need more young people in the world to have the courage to say that: “This is our world now, and there are going to be some changes.”
Mwitari is a Life Enthusiast. She is a lover of life and everything it has to offer; which includes but is not limited to People, Cultures, Food, Music, Art, and Knowledge. She enjoys traveling, networking, brainstorming, reading and playing board games.
She believes in working SMART, loving what you do and doing what you love. She is growth-oriented; committed to learning, growing and bettering herself as well as those around her. She does not want to wear glass slippers. She wants to break glass ceilings!
