WYA Film Nights

Films are cultural artifacts which are created by cultures and also reflect them, and, in turn, affect them. Film is considered to be an important art form, a source of popular entertainment and a powerful method of educating people. For instance, some people prefer to watching movies to reading books.

At the World Youth Alliance house in New York, we show films once a month and afterwards we have discussions related to the film. This is the best part of the film nights, apart from the popcorn of course. People get to talk about the movie and express their thoughts about it.

The last film night was on Monday the 14th of July and the movie watched was called Children of Heaven. It’s a movie about two young kids from a poor family in Iran, who, because of their difficult situation, have to share a pair of shoes to go to school. The movie’s ending is quite unexpected.

Did the children really get the new shoes? This is the question that kept being asked and is probably what some people are still wondering. And the answer is yes, they got the shoes!!!

The next movie to be shown is called Wit, on the 11th of August 2008. You should come by and see it with us.
