World Youth Alliance Latin America is pleased to announce the launch of the WYA Venezuela Chapter, led by María Laura Hernández and Sofía Guillen, both certified members with excellent results. This new Chapter is expected to continue promoting Human Dignity as well as the expansion of WYA in the region.
Meet María Laura!
María Laura is an 18-year-old Venezuelan girl, a second-term student in Administration Marketing at the Rafael Belloso Chacín University. Maria was certified as a WYA member in April of this year and aspires to be the trainer of the next Batch. Since hearing about the WYA, Maria deeply identified with the ideals of the organization. María Laura has participated in several Intercollegiate Models of the United Nations in her city, in which she served as a member of the Organizing Committee, on several occasions. Maria taught classes to prepare girls who wanted to participate in these events.
She has received training from the Alciana culture center of Opus Dei, where she has been able to do different volunteer work, one of the most important being training in values for high school children. She loves to read about various subjects, cook and dance ballet, where she has been instructed for the last seven years at the Grazyna Yeropunov Classical Ballet school.
Meet Sofia!
Sofía was born in Maracaibo, Venezuela 18 years ago. Currently, she is a student in the second term of Civil Engineering at the Rafael Urdaneta University. She has been a member of the World Youth Alliance since 2020 and completed the Certified Training Program (CTP) virtually in April 2021.
Since she was little, Sofia has been enthusiastic about conserving the environment, volunteering in the community, promoting human rights and education. For this, it has been involved in initiatives such as Lions Club International, FIRST Global Challenge 2020, the United Nations Model, among others. In her spare time, she enjoys reading fiction books, doing Pilates, watching movies, and spending time with her dog. From the first moment she heard about the mission and values of the WYA, Sofía knew that Venezuela needed the Organization for the social and economic reconstruction that her country needs.
Sofía is eager to connect with people from all over the world, who, like her, are committed to serving the community and contributing ideas in solving problems at the public policy level. During the readings, Sofia confirmed that the unity of peoples through a common purpose can lead to the transformation of an entire nation. His favorite reading was “Some ideas about music” by Josef Pieper, since in this, the author highlights the idea that music is the voice of the soul that directs us towards who we should be: good and happy beings.
World Youth Alliance Latin America wishes the best for its new Chapter leaders in Venezuela, hoping that they will do an excellent job promoting Human Dignity and the mission of WYA in their country.
