2011 WYA Presidential Scholarship Fund Appeal

1 July 2011

Dear friends and alumni of the World Youth Alliance,

I want to thank you for your constant support over the years and introduce you to our annual Scholarship Fund appeal. This past March we marked our 12th Birthday at a celebration here in our New York headquarters. As WYA Founder, Anna Halpine, recapped the last twelve years of the Alliance, I marveled at how far we’ve come in such a short time, but also, was left with a profound sense of gratitude for friends like you that have made this work possible.

I have attached a letter to this request to share with you two of the many stories I have had the chance to bear witness to in my position as Regional Director and now President of WYA and tell you about an effective way you can help continue to produce outstanding members through our Scholarship Fund. In the attached letter, you’ll learn how Fred Kagame, a young Rwandan boy received a scholarship to last year’s WYA International Summer Camp and was inspired by our message of dignity and solidarity. Since Fred has returned home to Africa, he’s busy sharing the work of WYA to his friends and family members in Rwanda and beyond. Then there’s Aliah Dimaporo, a former staff member from the Philippines, who in 2010 was elected to the Philippines Congress and is inspiring her country as she leads the fight against a population control bill that is being forced through Philippines Congress.

As you will see in my letter, 2011 is already proving itself to be our most exciting and busiest year ever, and we need your help as reach new members and continue with our international expansion. These developments are made possible through the WYA Scholarship Fund. The WYA Scholarship Fund was set up four years ago to allow friends of WYA, like yourself, to make donations and have them matched. For every dollar you give, it will be doubled by a generous anonymous donor to WYA. The Scholarship Fund is our major fund that provides funding to support our regional internship programs around the world, allows us to host conferences and membership initiatives, and covers other major expenses such as airfare, conference registrations, online campaigns, etc. Your donation benefits young members directly as it goes straight to these projects!

As WYA continues in its 12th year of work, would you please consider making a donation to our scholarship fund? We’ve recently set up a new online giving site that makes giving easier than ever—simply click on this link and you’ll be directed to our site. Alternatively, you can also mail checks to our main address listed below—just be sure to note that you’d like your donation to go towards our scholarship fund. Your kind gift is a great way to ensure that the work of the World Youth Alliance continues for another twelve years and longer. Fred and Aliah are only two of the many stories we hear that remind us that we really are making a difference. On behalf of the WYA members around the world, I thank you for your help in making this work possible.

Sincere thanks and salutations,

Francois Jacob

President
