African Director’s Visit to the Pearl of Africa – Uganda
On 12th June the Africa Regional Director together with two regional interns from made WYAA’s 2nd visit to Kampala, . The visit included meetings with key contacts and Affiliate Organizations of World Youth Alliance as well as introductory talks in schools. The trip was a wonderful experience of the dignity and potential of the human person. The team met groups of young people who had taken the initiative to address some of the problems facing them in the community such as HIV/AIDS, Health and Sanitation, care for widows and orphans, among others. The team discovered that these groups were actually living out the principles contained in the World Youth Alliance Charter on the need for solidarity to achieve integral human development focused on the dignity of the human person. During this visit about 280 new members and member organizations were recruited. This trip provided us with the perfect example of how one person can make a difference within the community by simply taking initiative. We would like to express our gratitude to Nsambya Homecare Department; the Resident District Commissioner of Kampala; the administration and students of Molly & Paul, Malcom X, and Nabisunsa Girls School; the members of Mengo Youth Development Link and Ndeeba Parish Youth; Mrs Alice Muwanguzi; and the main coordinator of the visit Saidi Lwanga. Without your participation the visit would not have been such a success and wonderful experience.
