World Youth Alliance Asia Pacific (WYAAP) alumna Donna de Jesus is dedicating her second marathon to raise funds for WYAAP.
On February 19, 2017, Donna will be participating at the 7th The Bull Runner Dream Marathon, “the first and only marathon in the world that caters exclusively to first- and second-time marathon runners.” This will be Donna’s second 42k run, and she has launched a PHP42,000 fundraising campaign via SimplyGiving for pledges and donations. The final amount to be raised will be matched by a generous donor, and will even be multiplied by 1.5 if Donna beats her time from her first marathon.
Donna started running in 2008. Since then she has joined several triathlons and aquathlons.
“[Running] is such a good release from the stress at work. It also makes me feel healthy and constantly challenged,” she shared.
[The internship] was one of the best experiences I’ve had. It was a lot of work – fundraising, organizing events, doing chores, undergoing the Track A Training (now Certified Training Program) . But it was also very encouraging because you were with young people who were willing to share the experience with you,” she shared of her international internship experience.
“The idea of ‘promoting the dignity of the human person seemed so broad at first. But I realized that it was in our small, everyday actions, that we best live this idea. We have so much capacity to be agents of positive change, and there was so much joy being able to share this with and to other people from different cultures,” she added.
Donna has since been an active alumna, and currently a member of the Philippine National Committee. She continues to support the work of WYAAP through various initiatives.
