It was a weekend full of fun, happiness and networking on Saturday, the 13th of May 2017 at the World Youth Alliance Africa office in Nairobi. Volunteers, members and partner organizations of WYAA got a chance to socialize with the WYAA staff, interns, and the global WYA President Mr. Lord Leomer Pomperada. It was an amazing experience as the President interacted with members of the World Youth Alliance Africa’s Family and tasted ‘Nyama Choma’ (Roast Meat), Kenyan barbeque, Ugali, and kachumbari (local salad).
The event began at 2:00 pm in the open garden space beside the regional office. The attendees came in with great expectations and sat down listening to some cool music as they waited for the program to begin. The program began with the Africa Regional Director, Ms. Patricia Gwambo, welcoming attendees and introducing them to the WYAA team, followed by an icebreaker led by Mr. Pomperada, and then the serving of the food.
After eating the delicious food, members were introduced to the first two Kenyan and one Ugandan National Committee Members. One of the nominated members of the Committee, Lilian Kamau, took the guests through the Declaration on Immigration and Development, an outcome document from the 2017 International Solidarity Forum held in New York in March 2017. The President Mr. Pomperada then gave a brief talk on doing the impossible and introduced the Human Dignity Curriculum (HDC) and highlighting the importance of the Fertility Education and Medical Management (FEMM). The afternoon ended with fun selfies, photos, networking, and new friends.
