UK Members mark the Bicentenary of the Abolition of Slavery
On 25th March 2007, we celebrated the 200th anniversary of the day that a Parliamentary Bill was passed to abolish the slave trade in the former British Empire. WYA members met in London this week, taking a break from regular discussions on WYA Track A training materials, in order to discuss the life and legacy of William Wilberforce.
What forms of slavery are still manifest in the world today?
How can these new forms of slavery be eradicated?
What campaigning methods did Wilberforce use in his campaign to end slavery would be useful for the World Youth Alliance?
What are the modern day issues that young people feel passionately about?
WYA members in training have begun to discuss strategies of advocacy work and campaigning that would help get our message across to society, taking into consideration the methods used by Wilberforce himself. If you would like to join these discussions, we invite you to enrol in the online training zone. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information about regular WYA London meetings.
