As we start off the year, it’s good to remind ourselves about the importance of human dignity and understanding what it exactly means to have this dignity. In this month’s issue, you’ll see WYA’s response to United Nations Secretary General’s Report on the Post-2015 Development Agenda reminding the UN that dignity should be a foundation rather than a goal of the development agenda. Now more than ever, it is very important to truly understand what dignity means. That is why, here at WYA, we continually provide opportunities for young people to deepen their understanding through internships and our training program. Be sure to check the internship and training dates listed at the bottom to avail of these opportunities.
The World Youth Alliance recently submitted comments on the UN Secretary-General’s report on the sustainable development agenda. These comments are submitted by invitation of the UN as part of its commitment to engaging civil society in core issues. Our comment focused on two key issues: the misuse of the word dignity as a goal rather than a foundation, and the implication in the document that reproductive rights are universally supported as necessary to development and equality.
