On September 17, 2013, WYA Europe hosted a screening of the winning films from this year’s Manhattan International Film Festival. Attended by 35 members and friends, the evening was a great success.
The event had a warm welcome within the participants, who were more than expected. All of them were glad to have the opportunity of joining the very first screening in Brussels of the festival finalist films.
The Italian and nostalgic short movie "A Summer Tale", by Anita Rivaroli and Irene Tommasi, and the Macedonian "Alarm", by Ana Aleksovska called to participants to reflect about the power of solidarity and the individual’s use of freedom. Deep themes, but well combined with subtle touches of humour.
The Portuguese "Postcards from Lisbon", by Pedro Miguel Resende, and the laureate American short film "Head over Heals", by Timothy Reckart, managed to tender and affect the public, witnessing the triumph of human spirit by knowing how life is in different situations and conditions.
To the delight of the audience, the film event was accompanied by Duo Minos, who dazzled the participants with their cello and violin, reviewing Mozart’s musical scores, and a French buffet, what brought elegance to the exquisite event.
For those who were not able to participate, do not worry: on February 28th and March 2nd 2014, Manhattan International Film Festival will open its doors again to welcome everyone who wants to experience the vital role of arts in society. And if you are a young director, or wiling to become one, do not hesitate to participate in the next MIFF and send us your short film before December 2nd 2014.
