Profiles of Humanity-WYA Celebrates Exceptional Women

(NEW YORK CITY, MARCH 7, 2012) — On the occasion of International Women’s Day, March 8th 2012, the World Youth Alliance would like to recognize outstanding women who have signed the WYA Charter and have contributed to their families, communities, and to the world through their unique talents and gift of self. At the World Youth Alliance, we believe that ideas are powerless unless they are first lived out in one’s personal life. In honor of the Day, WYA will profile one woman from 5 various regions over the next five days to salute the example they set for all people across the globe.

Youth leader, lawyer, mother, teacher, peace maker and developer…these exceptional individuals have too many titles and skills to fit in one singular profile. However, there is one thing they have in common: Each of them signed the World Youth Alliance Charter while under the age of thirty. This changed the course of their lives, families, and communities.

The World Youth Alliance Declaration on Women, ratified in 2005, states that “Equal in dignity, and in a way that is complementary to man, woman is unique in her capacity for love and so can experience freedom in a radical way through her gift of self…Woman recalls to humankind its humanity in a profound recognition of the dignity of each person. Woman is the architect of authentic peace from the most basic cell of society to the highest levels of policy and decision making, constructing conditions in which persons are given the chance to live in accordance with their dignity.”

We invite you to join us in honoring every woman as a “portrait of humanity,” as we call on young people around the world to follow in their steps by signing the World Youth Alliance Charter. Be sure to visit our website ( for daily updates.
