§         What are the requirements?

Applicants must be 16-30 years of age and members of the World Youth Alliance. If the applicant is not a member prior to the application process, he/she must agree to the principles set out in the Charter by signing it and submitting the signed Charter with his/her application form and documents.

§         How long is an internship? When does it start?

Each internship period lasts three months. Each calendar year is divided into four internship terms.  For 2007, the following dates have been identified as the beginning of each term:

                             15 March to 5 June (30 February)

                             15 June to 5 September (30 May)

                            15 September to 5 December (30 August)

§         Is it a paid internship?

Unfortunately, the Manila Internship does not provide for a monthly stipend. Although, accepted applicants will gain a wealth of experience and tons of new friends.

§         When is the deadline for submission?

All internship applications must be received by the regional office in Manila by 5pm (Malay Peninsula Standard Time) on the following dates for the following terms:

     15 March to 5 June (30 February)

     15 June to 5 September (30 May)

     15 September to 5 December (30 August)

§         How do I know the status of my application?

Once received, applications are confirmed via email. As your application progresses, you will be notified via email. If you are accepted into the program, you will be informed through email and a formal letter via post.

§         When do I find out about the decision?

If you progress to the interview phase, decisions are usually given about a week after your interview. Applicants will be notified initially through an email or a phone call and formally through a letter from the Manila office.

§         How much time should I allot for the entire process?

We recommend allotting about one month for your application. This entails working on your application, submission, review, progress, the decision and starting your internship in Manila. Considering this, it is best to start your application now.

§         How many times a week will I report to work?

Interns report to work Mondays to Fridays from 9am to 5pm, while externs report to the office at least twice a week.

§         What is the difference between the Internship and Externship Program?

The main difference between externs and interns is the number of hours spent in the office. Externs are our part-time interns that, because of work or school, cannot commit to working with us full time during the three-month program. Both programs offer the certified member training track of the World Youth Alliance. Both interns and externs will be taken on exposure trips and invited to join private discussions with experts in the field of development. Projects and reports are assigned to both externs and interns. Although the number of work hours is less for externs, the amount of work is relatively the same.

§         What if I have other questions?

We’d love to know them. Contact the World Youth Alliance Asia Pacific office at tel/fax +632 433 0715 or send us an email at asiapacific@wya.net.
