Spring of the Human Dignity Curriculum in Croatia

Procvat Kurikula za ljudsko dostojanstvo u Hrvatskoj

A moment from the pilot implementation of HDC in Croatia

The Human Dignity Curriculum (HDC) is blooming in Croatia. After the pilot version of HDC that was held in Zagreb in 2016, World Youth Alliance (WYA) Croatia got the official approval of the Croatian Ministry of Science and Education to carry out HDC workshops in Croatian elementary schools.

“The Croatian HDC team has been working very hard on this and today seven girls (and we do welcome boys as well!) – Croatian HDC team members – are very happy with this outcome!”, said Andreja Kotnik, the leader of HDC team in Croatia. After the official approval by the Croatian ministry, Croatian HDC girls had their first elementary school HDC workshops.

In February 2017, HDC workshops were implemented in the “Ivan Cankar” Elementary School in Zagreb. The students that were attending these workshops were eighth graders. There were 20 of them during the workshops, including their teacher who was participating as the teacher-evaluator. She was there to learn more about what HDC is and to give some advice to WYA HDC teachers in order to improve their own work in teaching.

The school pedagogue and the eighth grade teacher were pleased with the workshops so much that they offered to continue with the collaboration between WYA Croatia and their school. They have started to make plans to have more HDC workshops in the following school year.

“We are looking forward to collaborating with ‘Ivan Cankar’ Elementary School in the future, as well as with every other elementary school that will recognize HDC as a tool that can contribute to children’s development,” concluded Andreja Kotnik.

After the Summer break, the Croatian HDC team is planning to expand its activities into even more schools in Croatia.
