Regional Director of World Youth Alliance Europe Daniel Wisniewski attended the 3rd International Conference on Human Rights Education devoted to contemporary debates in human rights. The conference took place in Krakow, Poland between 6th-10th December 2012, and brought together human rights specialists from all over the world.
The conference was opened by H. E. Lech Walesa, Nobel Peace Prize winner, former President of Poland and the leader of Solidarity movement who introduced us all to the topic human rights. Mr. Walesa pointed out that human rights do not entitle human beings to do whatever they want.
During these five days a large number of lectures, seminars and workshops took place at the Aditorium Maximum of the Jagiellonian University. The speakers discussed many recent challenges related to the human rights including lack of decent employment, poverty, social and economic inequalities, lack of good governance.
On Sunday, December 9th the participants were brought to the Nazi Germany’s Death Camp in Auschwitz, in order to see the greatest abuse of human rights in contemporary history. After this horrifying experience, the participants were hosted by the State Higher School in Oswiecim. The conference was closed by its inventor Dr. Sev Ozdowski, President of Australian Council for Human Rights who spoke about recent situation in Australia.
The 4th Conference of Human Rights Education will take place in Taipei, Taiwan in November 2013. We are looking forward to see you all there!
