WYA Africa Dignity Project at a Local Children’s Home in Gitaru, Kenya

The Makimei children’s home visit and fun day took place on the 18th of February 2017. The orphanage located in Kikuyu, Gitaru area is home to more than 40 children comprising of both boys and girls. The visit was conducted as a dignity project with the aim of introducing WYA to the home, and alongside playing and doing fun activities, teach them about the importance of affirming dignity in our everyday lives.

A safe haven is the most apt definition for the space the children live in. The WYA team and friends spent the whole afternoon interacting with the children, giving motivational talks and having a great time. We learnt a lot about the history of the home and the situations in which some of the children were saved from.  Our mission was to give hope to the children that despite their past, they are worthy of respect and honour, and no one can take away their dignity.
