100 youth leaders from all over Africa met in Nairobi this week for the 3rd Annual Africa Emerging Leaders Conference. The conference was held at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre. The theme of the conference was: Sustainable Development: The Priority of Persons. Countries represented include: Kenya, DRC, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Somalia, Malawi, Gambia, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Sudan, Liberia and New Zealand.
The conference featured expert lectures and plenary discussions on topics ranging from virtuous leadership, sustainable development, adapting to climate change, education and entrepreneurship for development among others. The delegates had a tour of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and UN HABITAT headquarters where they had a firsthand experience of sustainable use of energy at the green building complex –where solar is the only source of energy as well as brief history of the UN and its functions.
