Friday, September 18, 2020 – The World Youth Alliance hosted the 10th Africa Emerging Leaders Conference with the theme “Reproductive health and its link to overall health” and a sub-theme “Youth and Mental Health.” The conference was coordinated by the WYA Africa staff in collaboration with WYA Africa National Committees and Chapter leaders.
This was the first time the conference was held online and brought together WYA Africa members from across the continent to learn about the connection between the reproductive, mental, physical, and social aspects of the human person, and how these aspects contribute to their overall well-being.
The conference started with an introduction from the WYA Africa Regional Director, Cynthia Maingi, who then introduced the emcee for the day, Ms. Milka Ndung’u, a WYA member and intern alumni. Milka led the sessions by giving introductions to the amazing speakers and shout outs to everyone who was following the broadcast live on the WYA Facebook pages and on YouTube.
The first speaker for the day, Lilian Kamau, who is the chairperson of the WYA Africa – Kenya National committee, gave a very detailed talk on “Reproductive Health and its link to overall health”, this was followed by our second speaker Munene Wanjau, the WYA Africa Strathmore Chapter Leader who gave a comprehensive talk on the topic “Youth and Mental Health.”
The participants then got a chance to ask questions to the two amazing speakers before the MC wrapped up the Conference by thanking everyone who attended and the team that helped organize the conference.
