WYA Africa Hosts the First Session of Read the CTP with the Staff

Friday, April 11, 2021 – The World Youth Alliance Africa hosted the first session of, “Read the CTP with the WYA staff”. The event is meant to engage WYA Members in reading and understanding chapters 5, 6, and 7 of the Certified Training Program and encourage them to apply for the upcoming Batch 3 Training. On this particular day, the Chapter 5 text on the Dynamics of World History by Christopher Dawson was the main focus.

The trainer, Ms. Cynthia Maingi (the Regional Director of World Youth Alliance Africa), discussed how culture is an expression of religion, society, values, and environment. Culture is the manifestation of the human ability to adapt to our surroundings and an expression of our spirit.

The message in part included how art helps us understand different cultures. It serves as a great bridge that connects different cultures allowing people to better understand others and in return encourages solidarity. Great art is an expression of great culture. This was followed by an interactive question and answer session where most of the participant’s concerns were about the role the youth can play in promoting art and culture.

The key takeaways were that, in attempting to learn a community’s culture, one must seek to understand its art because art is a vital part of any community and cannot be separated from a community’s culture. Great art allows us to prioritize the human person as it allows creativity to result in societal development that respects, protects, and encourages the human person in order to pursue the truth.

The World Youth Alliance Africa staff helped the participants have a better and more in-depth understanding of chapter 5 of the Certified Training Program and how best they can have an active role in making a difference in how art and culture are perceived in order for us to understand each other more.
