World Youth Alliance Africa (WYAA) held a screening of the “Long Walk to Freedom” on Friday 17, June. The event was held at the African regional offices in Cara House on Karen road in Nairobi Kenya. The event, was meant to bring together WYAA members and staff.
The event had been planned by the interns while assisted by the staff. At least 50 members had been targeted to attend. A heavy downpour began shortly before the event and some guests called to notify of their inability to make it to the venue due to the heavy downpour. A good number of members were still able to attend despite adverse weather conditions.
Attendees watched the movie while relating its themes to current events and issues in the world. Scenes from the movie provided great insight on freedom for excellence and reinforced ideas found in WYA’s Certified Training Program (CTP) on Freedom.
After the movie, a short discussion ensued on their learnings from the movie and the role of the youth in solving some of the current political hitches in Kenyan society. The discussion was very lively and enriching and the members present agreed to bring their friends to the next movie screening on the 15th of July. One important lesson taken from the movie was that people can be taught to hate, and if they can be taught to hate then they can also be taught to love because love is natural.
