October 9 – November 20, 2020 – The World Youth Alliance and Minerva Schools at KGI partnered up for a series of four workshops on Negotiation, Leadership, Persuasive Speech and Decision Matrix. The workshops were led by four different individuals, all from Minerva, with the purpose of empowering the participants with tools to become better leaders and active elements towards change. Around 80 WYA members attended the workshop series which simulated the Minerva Schools classroom experience.
Minerva School at KGI (Keck Graduate Institute), best known for their innovative, interactive and proactive teaching models, offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Applications are open for their Fall 2021 admissions.
The first workshop, the Negotiation Workshop, was led by Trang Ha Tran, Outreach Lead for Southeast Asia, on October 9, 2020. The workshop taught participants how to negotiate effectively by creating strong and persuasive arguments, finding loopholes in another’s argument, creating counterarguments and finding common ground. The workshop increased the participants’ strategizing and negotiation skills.
The second workshop, the Leadership Workshop, was led by Antonia Boorman, Regional Outreach Associate for Western Europe, on October 23, 2020. The objective of this session was to guide participants to identify the skills required for effective leadership. The session looked at different leadership styles and associated transformative leadership with the different cultural and business contexts.
The third workshop, the Persuasive Speech Workshop, was led by Manu Jayamohan Nair, Student Life Manager, on November 6, 2020. The aim of this session was to teach the participants how to speak authentically and confidently and customize their speech to different audiences. These include nonverbal communication such as body language and multimodal design such as effective Power Point slides.
The final workshop, the Decision Matrix Workshop, was led by Lucian Cosinschi, Former Minerva Schools Regional Director for Europe, on November 20, 2020. Being the most practical workshop, the session focused on building a decision matrix. A decision matrix is a mental tool that helps individuals, organizations, corporations and governments make better decisions by aggregating multiple information in a manageable form that integrates subjectivity, objectivity, and personal values.
WYA sincerely thanks all the participants and facilitators, particularly Fatou Badiane-Toure, Minerva’s Global Outreach Managing Director, for making this event possible.
