About the Emerging Leaders Conference
The Emerging Leaders Conference is an annual event of WYAAP for young individuals to learn about the salient issues of today and how they can apply their roles as leaders through a variety of talks, forums and interactive activities. Participants will have the opportunity to share their ideas and build networks with other youth leaders from the Asia Pacific region. It also serves as venue for young people to engage in cultural exchanges. This will strengthen a region-wide cooperation among Asia Pacific youth to implement projects among participating individuals and organizations as well as explore possibilities for project collaboration, laying the groundwork for long-term partnerships.
On its 3rd year, the WYAAP ELC will focus on the theme "Strengthening the Family: Key to Asia Pacific Development". The United Nations has declared 2014 as the International Year of the Family. World Youth Alliance joins the international celebrations in order to examine the relationship between healthy families and the development and flourishing of societies and nations. The plenary sessions are set to discuss the challenges to the family as well as success stories and best practices for the protection and promotion of the family in policy and culture.
In order to advocate for the protection of the family in policy and culture, young people need to clearly understand the crucial role families play in economic development and human flourishing. As the fundamental unit of society, the family provides an invaluable contribution to society and nations through the nurturing and education of children, and as a school of solidarity.
