World Youth Alliance International is sending nine interns to Toronto, Canada from 13 to 18 October for the XVI International AIDS Conference. This work began with a training on 3-4 August in New York where we discussed an approach to the AIDS crisis that would integrate all aspects of human development.
We will be advocating for this holistic perspective including:
– humane treatment of those afflicted with HIV/AIDS, and
– prevention strategies that promote dignity, social repsonsibility, and affirmative cultures
(See WYA Declaration on HIV/AIDS)
Central to our delegation will be Hezbon Mogambi of Kenya, who has spent a summer internship in New York preparing for the Conference, and Stephanie Sher and Tara McElroy of Canada. Stephanie and Tara recently completed summer internships in Nairobi, Kenya, including visits to Uganda and to Nyumbani Village for orphans of AIDS victims. (Click to read more about Nyumbani Village.)
Stay tuned for more information from the AIDS Conference!
