WYA delivers statement at the United Nations 52nd CSocD

February 18, 2014, United Nations – The World Youth Alliance today reiterated the need for a person-centered approach to development during the 52nd session of the Commission on Social Development (CSocD).

“We must bear in mind that people represent the Earth’s greatest resource, and that the capacity of youth for innovation is an essential driver for poverty eradication and sustainable development,” said Ana Laura Hernandez, a Mexican member of WYA’s advocacy team.

She further asserted that States must also show a commitment to families because of their role in creating free and just societies. The World Youth Alliance believes in promoting the dignity of every human person. WYA’s work at the United Nations seeks to ensure that all outcome documents affirm this dignity and represent a positive view of the value of human life.

The CSocD is a functional commission of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), primarily tasked with the follow up and implementation of the Copenhagen Declaration and Programme of Action.

The priority theme of the 52nd session of the CSocD is “Promoting empowerment of people in achieving poverty eradication, social integration and full employment and decent work for all.” It runs from February 11 to February 21 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
