WYA gives Bioethics Presentation at Columbia U

WYA UN Advocacy Specialist, Shannon Joseph, gave a presentation at Columbia University on the bioethical issues surrounding the use of Assisted Reproductive Technologies on Wednesday, February 18, 2009. Among the more controversial topics covered were, embryonic versus adult stem-cell research, the rights of donor conceived persons and the new eugenics.

The presentation was covered in Columbia University’s paper – The Spectator.

Since the 2008 International Solidarity Forum on the Uses of Assisted Reproductive Technologies WYA has been giving presentations for various groups around the world on the topic. Presentations were given by WYA President Mary Halpine during her recent trip to Africa and by WYA Communications Director Catherine Young to a group in the Philippines. In North America, presentations have been given at Scranton University, SUNY New Paltz, McGill University and Marymount College Manhattan, among others.
