The World Youth Alliance staff and interns welcomed the 2016 Taiwan Youth Ambassadors last September 12 at the headquarters in New York City. The 27 youth ambassadors were led by His Excellency Victor J. Chin, Ambassador on Home Assignment from the Institute of Diplomacy and International Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and Director Ronnie Lu from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York.

“We warmly welcome the officials from Taiwan and TECO and the 2016 Taiwan Youth Ambassadors. Every year, we’re glad to meet the youth ambassadors and we’re glad that they continue to engage with WYA. We also enjoyed your cultural performance yesterday at Flushing,” WYANA Director Weronika Janczuk said in her welcome message.

During their visit, the Taiwan Youth Ambassadors were introduced to World Youth Alliance and the different opportunities that WYA provides to young people around the world in the areas of advocacy, education and culture.

“World Youth Alliance and Taiwan has long standing friendly relations especially in the area of culture and youth development. We partnered with the TECO in New York for our 2015 Manhattan International Film Festival and 2 Taiwanese film makers were named as part of the 4 winners during the 2015 Festival. Many Taiwanese youth have also participated in WYA’s internship programs in the Philippines and in New York, WYA President Lord Leomer Pomperada said during his presentation to the youth ambassadors and Taiwan officials.

The Taiwan Youth Ambassadors program is an annual cultural youth exchange program organized by the Republic of China. From hundreds of applications, the government chooses the best university students after a series of application and panel interviews. During the 3-week program, the 2016 Taiwan Youth Ambassadors will be visiting Canada, USA and Chile to present cultural presentations and meet with government and civil society leaders.

WYA wishes to thank the Taiwan officials and youth ambassadors for visiting the WYA headquarters.
