WYA Honors Elizabeth Budnik, Launches Matching Grant for Tanzania

October 3, 2019, New York City – The World Youth Alliance is delighted to honor Elizabeth Budnik with the Mary R. Smith Award at this year’s WYA 20 Dinner.

Elizabeth (Bissy) Budnik was an early WYA member having interned at the New York Headquarters in 2007. She soon became a generous and devoted friend, contributing to the early growth and development of WYA, the establishment of its regional offices, and its sister organization, Fertility Education and Medical Management (FEMM). She met her sweetheart, John Budnik, through WYA events and are now happily married with a growing family of four. Currently, she is training to become a teacher for both the Human Dignity Curriculum (HDC) and FEMM

The Mary R. Smith Award was established to recognize individuals who have rendered distinguished service to the mission of the WYA. The award honors the legacy of Mary R. Smith, who provided critical support and encouragement to WYA’s mission during its founding years. Elisabeth is the sixth recipient of the Mary R. Smith Award. As one of Mary’s grandchildren, the award is a fitting tribute to their family’s long-standing commitment to WYA.

An invitation to participate in a $50K matching grant for Tanzania was also announced at the annual dinner. Giving a gift towards the matching campaign will help launch a national partnership with the Tanzanian Bishops Conference for the Human Dignity Curriculum (HDC) and Fertility Education and Medical Management (FEMM)

As Elisabeth shared in her acceptance speech, “WYA offered a constructive solution to making the world better.” Support WYA in making these solutions possible. Donations can be made at www.wya.net/give and these donations are tax deductible.
