WYA Hosts Leaders Need to Rest: Why Mental Health Matters

August 12, 2021 – WYA hosted a highly successful “Leaders Need To Rest: Why Mental Health Matters” webinar. More than 80 youth leaders tuned in via Airmeet for an impactful session from Gisa Paredes, founder of Healing Minds PH and My Soul Briefcase. Gisa tackled the need to look at mental health in its totality and the importance of taking a breather whenever one feels overwhelmed.

She also touched on how to support others when in need of help and meeting them at their point of need. The event was very interactive with Gisa leading the participants into a self-reflection activity. It also featured a surprise ballet dance performance from WYA Singapore’s very talented Chapter Leader, Megan Ling.

At the end of the event, participants were able to have their questions addressed by Gisa with the help of our hosts Kevin Alando , Regional Director of Operations WYA Africa and Ina Delic, Director WYA Southeast Europe Subregional office.

One of the questions tackled was on how to identify an individual going through a depressing situation by using the 4Ds: Are they visibly Distressed? Are they experiencing Dysfunction in not enjoying things they previously enjoyed? Are they exhibiting Deviance by behaving differently from their usual state? Lastly, are they a Danger to themselves or others? Depending on the degree, it would help gauge whether or not the person needs support in terms of seeking professional help.

If you missed the event, don’t worry! Highlights are available on WYA’s social media page. If you’d like to learn more about World Youth Alliance, please feel free to contact your regional office or visit wya.net.
