WYA Latin America at Working Group on Family

WYA Latin America was present at the North American Expert Group Meeting on “Confronting family poverty and social exclusion; ensuring work-family balance; advancing social integration and intergenerational solidarity in North America” sponsored by The International Federation for Family Development (IFFD) in cooperation with the Focal Point on the Family (UNDESA).

This event was developed during the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the United Nations Year of the Family and took place in Mexico City from May 19-20. The meeting included several experts from the UN such as the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), NGOs that work with the family in the Latin America region, and scholars from different universities who specialize in different fields that involve family.

The regional office for Latin America reminded the expert group about the authentic point of view of youth and the need to recognize family as the place where humans first learn about their worth, responsibility, affiliation, solidarity, freedom and fulfillment of social obligations.

The event ended with recommendations that will be presented to the United Nations. A press conference responsible for the event expressed a summary of the discussions and information during the meeting.
