World Youth Alliance Asia Pacific (WYAAP) received generous donations this 1st quarter of 2017 through the projects and support of alumni members from the region.
Donna de Jesus, who was among the first batch of volunteers for the WYAAP region back in 2004, set up an online crowdfunding page via SimplyGiving.com where she shared her WYA story and invited the online community to donate to the organization. As an active athlete from the Philippines Donna dedicated her second marathon to raise awareness about the mission of WYA and to raise funds for its Asia Pacific projects.
“More than ever, I believe in the work of WYA, and I want to help raise awareness and funds for the work that they do. I’m dedicating my second marathon on February 19, 2017 to WYA and hope to raise at least Php 42,000.00 for them. Please click donate and help WYA continue their work -inviting young people to their internship program, empowering youth, celebrating diversity, and promoting the dignity of the human person,” Donna shares on her online campaign page.
The campaign ran from December 2016 and concluded on the day of the marathon on February 19 in Nuvali, Philippines. Prior to the marathon on February 19, Donna was able to exceed her fundraising target having been able to gather pledges both online and offline. She also beat her time from last year’s marathon by 30 minutes, hence received another generous donation whereby the donor matched the total amount raised from the campaign.

Meanwhile, WYAAP was also granted a donation by the Asian Development Bank Staff Community Fund (ADB SCF), through WYA Certified Member and now also ADB staff member, Joanne Precious “JP” Tecson. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the ADB, the SCF launched its “SCF Funds 50” to provide financial support to 50 charities in Metro Manila, Philippines. JP nominated WYAAP for the SCF, and the grant was approved. The funds will be used for the implementation of the Human Dignity Curriculum in the region for 2017.
Donna and JP became WYA members in 2004 and 2005 respectively. JP completed the Certified Training Program in the same year, while Donna completed both a regional internship in 2005 and a New York internship in 2007. They also currently form part of the Philippine National Committee.
WYAAP extends its heartfelt gratitude to Donna and JP for their generous contribution to WYAAP. Their generosity will strengthen the programs of the region this 2017.
