WYAAP breaks ground on the new Michael’s Village

A flame of hope is rekindled in the hearts of the Gawad Kalinga community in Tatalon, Quezon City last June 7 as they officially celebrated the Ground Breaking of the new Michael’s Village.

The residents of Tatalon were bustling with anticipation over the renovation and the building of new homes in their community. This marks WYA Asia Pacific’s 2nd building project in partnership with Gawad Kalinga, a non-profit organization that transforms slums into productive, empowered and close-knit communities. Over the next few months, WYAAP members will work with Gawad Kalinga and the community in building the village.
The project will be financed by the Musca family from Ohio, United States through the World Youth Alliance. The Musca family donated funds to build 33 homes. The site will be officially called Michael’s Village, in memory of Michael Ertle, Ann Musca’s husband who passed away in 1996.
The ground breaking started at 9:00 am with a message from Mr. Arnel Dolot.  In attendance are WYAAP’s Former Regional Director Erika Tatad, Regional Director of Operations Tamara Tan and the new Regional Director Renelyn Tan who gave a message in behalf of the World Youth Alliance. Also in attendance are members of the local community and representatives from Gawad Kalinga.
The program featured the Sibol and Sagip kids from the GK Tatalon who rendered a special song and a dance number. Also in the program is a performance by rapper G-Money entitled “Life of a Nation-builder.” The program concluded at 11:00 am.
