World Youth Alliance Asia Pacific (WYAAP), in partnership with SOS Children’s Village, held its first Sulong Workshop this year, last February 22 at the SOS Village in Alabang, Muntinlupa.
With the theme “My Dignity, My Purpose,” the first of a series of workshops this year introduced to the participants, composed of high school students from three different SOS Villages in Luzon, the concept of dignity and how they can apply this knowledge to their lives.
Headed by regional interns Quina Baterna and Lelit Estipona, the whole day session was filled with exciting and meaningful activities for the participants.
In learning about dignity, the participants themselves tackled some issues on bullying.
“It’s a better feeling when instead of bullying, you end up being the one who defends the person being bullied,” one of the participants shared.
In the end, the participants offered different commitments on how they will defend dignity. Both WYAAP and SOS are looking forward to the upcoming workshops to be held within the year.
The word sulong is a Filipino term which “to move forward.” The workshops are given to various partner communities to help them learn the basic concepts of dignity, freedom and solidarity.
