World Youth Alliance Asia Pacific (WYAAP) and De La Salle University (DLSU) Economics Organization (EconOrg) partnered for the 14th Young Economists’ Convention (YEC) National Capital Region (NCR) series last December 2, 2014 at the Escaler Hall of Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines.
Themed Soaring Powerhouse: Enhancing the Possibilities of the Philippine Financial System, the NCR convention gathered over two hundred student leaders and engaged them through different talks about the ASEAN and Philippine Financial Systems. A research proposal competition was also held.
Established in 2001, the YEC is a product of the collective effort of De La Salle University – Angelo King Institute for Economic and Business Studies (DLSU – AKI), Anthony Aguirre Memorial Foundation, USAID, and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAF), in cooperation with the Junior Philippine Economics Society (JPES) and the De La Salle University – Economics Organization (DLSU – EconOrg).
The YEC is dedicated to enriching the Economics education of students in and outside the Philippines through conventions and conferences. It is an avenue for idea exchange through interaction with fellow students, and the wide range of professionals from both public and private sectors—government officials and representatives, businessmen, members of the academe and civil society.
The YEC presents relevant issues to stimulate critical thinking among the youth, and enables them the practical use of economic principles and theories as the future leaders and policymakers of the Philippines.
