World Youth Alliance Asia Pacific (WYAAP) and Silid Aralan Inc. (SAI) signed a yearlong Memorandum of Agreement to hold the tri-annual Sulong Workshop series. Signed last February 22, 2016, the agreement allows WYAAP to engage with the students of SAI in order to discuss lessons on human dignity, freedom, and solidarity.
The Sulong Workshop is a series of outreach visits designed to teach underprivileged or underperforming youth about integral human development through the core values in WYA—Human Dignity, Freedom, and Solidarity. The program is held three times throughout the year, on a Saturday. During the workshop, the WYAAP team conducts team-building activities, games, and lively discussions to the young participants.
SAI is a non-profit organization that aims to give low performing, underprivileged students confidence in their own capabilities as a means of affecting their academic performance for the better.
WYAAP and SAI successfully launched this year’s Sulong Workshop last February 27, 2016 at the SAI center in Montalban, Philippines. Twenty-one students attended the first session. The theme, “Human Dignity and Culture,” focused on introducing to the students the concept of human dignity and its relationship to culture.
The word “sulong” is a Filipino term, which means, “to move forward.” The workshops are given to various partner communities to help them learn the basic concepts of dignity, freedom and solidarity.
