World Youth Alliance Asia Pacific (WYAAP) has opened applications for the 6th Emerging Leaders Conference (ELC) happening this November 9 to 11, 2017 at the Hive Hotel and Convention Center, Quezon City, Philippines.
The ELC is WYAAP’s largest annual event where a carefully selected group of youth leaders from different parts of Asia and the Pacific gather to learn, build friendships, and have fun. The conference aims to educate youth delegates about the central theme, and to serve as a platform for the youth to build friendships with other emerging leaders from all over the Asia Pacific region.
This year, the ELC will focus on the topic of migration and development with the theme, A Global Family: Enriching Cultures through Migration and Development. In an era of constant internal and international migration, WYA believes that the youth are capable of building and rebuilding environments where holistic growth, solidarity, and sustainable development can occur for themselves and for others.
The ELC will consist of a series of talks and discussions from some of the region’s renowned educators, leaders, and youth advocates. To complement plenary discussions, delegates will also have the opportunity to interact with fellow delegates through breakout sessions, workshops, and group activities. These pocket sessions will allow delegates to explore more specific topics of their interest, and to boost interaction and collaboration with fellow delegates.
The plenaries and workshops will cover a wide range of topics including migration stories linked with employment, education, environment, and other themes. Delegates will also get the chance to explore how they can use art and creativity for social impact in order to raise awareness about their chosen migration issues. Participants can also expect discussions on sustainable development as well as person-centered responses to youth and migration issues.
WYAAP also launched its 2nd ELC Essay Writing Competition year, wherein the final three winners will be asked to present their essays as part of the conference program. Conference applicants who wish the join the competition must submit their completed application form by September 3, 2017.
The conference is open to Asia Pacific youth aged 15 to 30 years old. Non-World Youth Alliance members are welcome to apply. Regular applications for non-Essay Writing Competition applicants are accepted until September 10, 2017.
