The spirit of film and the essence of human dignity were once again celebrated by World Youth Alliance Asia Pacific (WYAAP) in the annual Manila Screening of the Manhattan International Film Festival (MIFF). The event was a collaborative effort between the Regional Interns and established schools and organizations in the Metro. The project was also made possible through a partnership with the De La Salle College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) Film Department and the Benildean Filmworks.
The film showing was held last November 6, 2015 at the De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) School of Design and Arts (SDA) Cinema. Regional Director of WYAAP, Mary Imbong, delivered a short introduction before the screening. After which, the films from the winners and one Filipino finalist were showcased :The Silence of Our Friends (Iina Lempiäinen, Finland), Watershed (Ruei-Jin Huang, Taiwan), A Day of Grace (Ryanorlie Abeledo, Philippines), Cobain and His Raincoat (Ya-Chen Cheng, Taiwan) and Bimyana (Kristine Zuniga, Philippines).
After the screening, the Director of Bimyana, Kristine Zuniga, was present for the Director’s Panel wherein she answered questions about her film and encouraged others to follow their passion as she did.
To close the event, the audience members were encouraged to submit entries for next year’s Manhattan International Film Festival and to attend WYAAP’s upcoming event for December, the WYAAP Creative Jam.
