WYAAP Visits La Salle Green Hills and School of St. Anthony

Last August 7th and 8th of 2013, WYAAP visited two schools for an introductory session. Our full time interns Mr. Ronald Castaneda and Ms. Jermayne Gregorio, currently studying at De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde majoring in Consular and Diplomatic Affairs, brought the team back to their respective high schools to share the mission of WYA to more young people.

The gathering aims to increase the awareness among youth leaders and active students about WYA’s projects. This also serves as a platform for us to invite them to participate in our regional internship as well as other training programs. More importantly, it is a step to build lasting partnerships with the high La Salle Green Hills (LSGH), an exclusive all-boys Catholic school headed by Lasallian brothers and in School of Saint Anthony (SSA), a private co-ed school.

The sessions began with an opening prayer led by the interns, and then followed by the discussion by Ms. Christine Violago, the Regional Director of World Youth Alliance Asia Pacific. Ms. Violago talked about the Role of Youth in Social Transformation for LSGH, and Youth Empowerment for SSA. She also introduced the history of WYA and how it came to be, as well as its vision and goals, and how high school students would benefit in becoming a member of the organization. After the interactive discussion, Jermayne and Ron shared their experiences in WYA inspiring their fellow Lasallians and Anthonians to become part of WYA.

Over 500 students attended for both schools and majority of them expressed their thoughts and opinions towards the main theme of the talk. As they got to learn new things from the discussion through the experiences from graduates of the same schools, it made it easy for them to decide to join. At the end of these introductory sessions, over a hundred supported the advocacy of WYA and signed the charter to become a member.

Membership in the World Youth Alliance is free. Sign up online: https://www.wya.net/about/charter.html , you will receive our monthly newsletter, advocacy updates, and invitations to WYA membership events and cultural programs around the world.
