Between July 8 and July 10, we had an opportunity to participate in the international conference Meet the New European Parliament, organized by the World Youth Alliance, namely its Austrian Chapter and European Regional Office. The aim of this unusual project was to connect young people from different parts of Europe and give them a quick look into one of the main EU institutions and meet and discuss with MEPs who were elected only a month earlier. The few days we spent in Brussels have been an asset and inspiration for us in many ways, some of which we would like to elaborate on here.
We would like to start with the discussions with others who participated in the project. It was an interesting and enriching experience for us to be able to get to know the views of young people from different European countries. Sometimes we were surprised that although some of the states are geographically or culturally close, the opinions that resonate among the young may be in fact very different. The discussions were much more interesting as one had the opportunity not only to learn about other opinions, but also hear the arguments and discuss them in greater detail.
Another important part of the program were the meetings with representatives of the European institutions; the European Commission was represented in addition to the European Parliament. This part of the program took place directly in the European Parliament building and could be divided into two separate categories.
First of all, the panel discussions during which we had the opportunity to learn more about the issues that are being addressed at the EP. The panels mainly concerned health, human dignity and the active role of youth in the decision-making process.
What was particularly interesting for our delegation was the second part of the EP meetings, this time with the MEPs, which took place the following day. Thanks to one member of our delegation, we had the opportunity to meet three Czech MEPs. These meetings took place in a more intimate atmosphere and we had the chance to discuss the processes of forming the new leadership of the European Union and other current events.
Last but not least, it is worth mentioning the reception at the diplomatic representation of the Republic of China (Taiwan). Here, we had the opportunity to hold very fruitful discussions with the diplomatic corps, including the Director of the Parliamentary Liaison Division. The whole event thus went beyond its European dimension.
In addition to a busy schedule, we had the chance to experience the culture and life of Brussels and explore the diverse parts of the city. It is truly fascinating how different characters individual parts of one city can have.
We would like to thank WYA for organizing projects of this type and inviting young people from all the different places and giving them the opportunity to actively participate in topics that are not only interesting but also important to them.

V době mezi 8. a 10. červencem jsme měli příležitost účastnit se mezinárodní konference Meet the New European Parliament, kterou pořádala organizace World Youth Alliance, konkrétně její rakouská a celoevropská pobočka. Neobvyklý projekt si kladl za cíl propojit lidi mladé generace z různých koutů Evropy a umožnit jim nahlédnout do jedné z hlavních institucí EU a setkat se a diskutovat s poslanci, kteří byli jen zhruba o měsíc dříve zvoleni do svých postů. Těchto několik dní, které jsme v Bruselu strávili, pro nás bylo přínosem a inspirací v mnoha ohledech, z nichž některé bychom zde rádi rozvedli.
Na prvním místě bychom chtěli uvést diskuse s ostatními, kteří se projektu účastnili. Bylo pro nás skutečně zajímavou a obohacující zkušeností mít možnost poznat názory mladých lidí z různých zemí Evropy. Někdy nás až překvapovalo, že ač jsou si některé ze států zeměpisně či kulturně blízké, názory, které mezi mladými resonují, mohou být velmi rozdílné. O to zajímavější pak byly diskuse, kdy měl člověk možnost nejen názor poznat, ale i vyslechnout argumenty a zavést hovor k větším detailům.
Další významnou částí programu byla setkání s vybranými zástupci evropských institucí, vedle již zmíněného Evropského parlamentu byla zastoupena také Evropská komise. Tato část programu probíhala přímo v budově Evropského Parlamentu a dala by se rozdělit na dvě samostatné kategorie.
V první řadě šlo o panelové diskuse, během nichž jsme se měli možnost blíže seznámit s tématy která se na půdě EP řeší. Panely se týkaly především zdraví, lidské důstojnosti a aktivní role mládeže v rozhodovacím procesu.
Pro naši výpravu byla obzvláště zajímavá druhá část setkání na půdě EP, tentokrát s europoslanci, která se uskutečnila následující den. Díky jednomu ze členů naší delegace jsme měli možnost setkat se osobně hned se třemi českými europoslanci. Tato setkání probíhala v komornější atmosféře a měli jsme možnost diskutovat o procesech formování nového vedení Evropské unie i o dalším aktuálním dění.
V neposlední řadě stojí za to zmínit přijetí na půdě diplomatického zastoupení Čínské republiky (Taiwanu). Zde jsme měli možnost vést velice přínosné diskuse s diplomatickým sborem včetně ředitele divize působící na půdě Evropského parlamentu. Celá akce tím tak získala i mimoevropský rozměr.
Kromě nabitého programu jsme měli příležitost poznat i kulturu a život Bruselu a projít si různorodé části města. Je skutečně fascinující, jak moc odlišný ráz mohou různé části jednoho města mít.
Chtěli bychom WYA poděkovat, že projekty tohoto typu pořádá a zve na ně mladé lidi z různých míst a dává jim tak možnost se aktivně zapojovat do témat která jsou pro ně nejen zajímavá, ale i důležitá.
